Eureka Series
RD 2 Warnambool
Media Release Cassie Tuckett

On Saturday the 24th
November all three Westside Honda sprintcars headed down to
Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool for round two of the Eureka Garages
and Sheds Sprintcar Series.
“Mr. Speed”
Matthew Reed, the current Victorian Champion was in top form
driving his V92 sprintcar powered by his 410 engine, as were his
fellow team mates Mark Charge driving the V48 360
and Gary Isom, american young gun from Nebraska in the United
States in USA 29 in the 372 engine.
Mark Charge
in the V48 started out in second position for his first heat of
the night. He battled it out with Jamie Veal but lost his
placing to finish in third. In his second heat, which was heat
five on the racing program Mark had a good start but tapped the
wall in the middle of turns three and four which caused some
minor rear end damage forcing Mark out of the remainder of that
race resulting in a 12th position start for the B – Main. He
moved up one position to finish in eleventh place therefore not
transferring into the A– Main Feature.
Mark enjoyed a night of
racing and was proud to see all three Westside Honda cars on the
track for the event.
American Gary Isom
driving USA 29 took to Sungold Stadium for the first time this
season. Gary’s night appeared to start out well with a fifth
place in his first heat but in his second heat the car was
towed off the track after a huge hit to the wall again in turns
three and four breaking the front end.
Gary was
fortunate enough to have the car repaired in time for the C
Main, where he started out of position six and finished 2nd
transferring him into the B Main with Mark Charge only one row
infront. Gary started out 14th position and progressed through
the field to finish 8th just a few places shorts for the
transfer into the A Main.
"Mr. Speed"
Matthew Reed driving the V92 had his foot on the peddle all night. He
started ninth in his first heat moving up through the pack to
finish fourth.
Matthew’s second heat
saw him take out the win, and in the pole shootout Matthew
qualified second for the A Main on the front row next to Warrnambool’s own Darren Mollenoyux.
The battle between
Mollenoyux and Reed was fought right up until the drop of the
chequered flag. Darren Mollenoyux took the win over Reed who
finished in second followed by Jamie Veal in third place.

Mark had made the decision to
enter the world series event only 5 days prior, after discussing
with Matthew the valuable lessons that could be learnt regarding
cornering techniques and car setups. Mark elected to start rear of
field in his heats and maintained good speed and car control
throughout the nights events.
" Its been a great night , I've
had a ball. I thought the track was very challenging but I managed
to stay out of trouble and keep up with the pack without being
lapped so I'm happy. Matt has been great. His advice and support has
been really beneficial and I hope to be able to go better and better
at my next few rounds."
On Sunday 3rd December, Mark and
the Westside Honda Team are heading down to Warnambool to compete in
the SRA 360cci Round.
" I'm really looking forward to
Warnambool. The car feels great and I think we should be fairly
competitive.. We are hoping for a top 10 finish"
